Land Rover Defender 110

The vehicle is a Land Rover 110 County Station Wagon.  It is the 300 TDI model and is 11 years old.  We went for this type of vehicle, as it is very simple and basic, meaning a laptop is not required to fix it.

There is a huge debate about Land Rover’s V’s Land Cruiser’s, let’s leave the geeks to that!!  We think a Land Rover is best as there are hundreds across the whole of Africa, and we know much more about them.

When we bought the vehicle it was pretty much standard.  So after some deliberation we decided to send it to Foleys in Essex (www.foleyspecialistvehicles.co.uk), to get expedition equipment added on.  Foleys do a lot of this work, and know what they are doing.  We are very happy with how the vehicle has turned out, and all the work is of a good quality.

The following list shows what we have had done:

Roof rack and Ladder
Jerry can holder for 4 jerry cans
Gas Bottle Holder
Chequer Plate kit
Eezi Awn 1.4m Roof tent
Eezi Awn Awning
Floor Safe
Steel centre cubby box
Hi Lift Jack, adaptor and mount
40 litre Water tank
Extra Fuel tank 40 litre
Roll bar
Lowered  rear seat
Swing away rear wheel carrier
Split Charge Battery system
Built in inverter
Side light Under awning
40Lt Engel Fridge
Battery Isolation Switch
Extra lock on back door
Twin shocks on the rear

Interior between back and rear seats
Rear windows removed and metal panel added for extra security

The idea is for everything to have a home in the vehicle, and everything to be stored in the rear secure area.  That way we are trying to avoid opportunist thieves.
